This is the first time I did this. I took the best songs I had written at the time and asked the best musicians I knew to record them with me. I've done this four times since, but this is the first one.
We started recording it in TJ's bedroom in his parent's house and finished it in his bedroom on the deep south shore of Staten Island (that house he shared with Trebosh and Murray). I don't remember who flushed the toilet at the end of my vocal take on "Just Thought You'd Like to Know", but I like to think it was Murray.
I remember TJ and I taking it in to be mastered and the engineer telling us that the entire recording was out of phase, save for one track. See if you can guess which one.
"Straight Line South" was my attempt at "Rocket Queen" (or maybe "Paradise City"), hence the whistle and the congas.
I should have just put my own name on it, but I copped out and named it after my favorite Bob Dylan song. We wound up playing a fair number of shows under that name - me and Wolf and Mark with a K and Marc with a C.
25 years later and I am not entirely embarrassed by it. Let's call that a win.
